3D Encaustic

2-day workshop with Cherilyn Martin

Encaustic medium, textiles and paper are the main elements of this workshop.

These materials will be used to create both 2 & 3D pieces.

We will concentrate on making both artists' books and 3D constructions in which layering and transparency play an important role.

All sorts of paper can be used for the structures e.g. paper with fibres, serviettes and tissutex.
Also recycled paper such as teabags, old letters and documents can be used.

Natural fabrics such as silk and cotton can be transformed into 3D pieces when treated with encaustic medium.

Using techniques such as piecing and enriching the surface with mixed media is also a possibility.

Encaustic medium can be used to fuse surfaces, but also sewing constructions by hand or machine will be explored. Water soluble fabric can also be helpful when assembling materials.

Students will be asked in advance to prepare a theme to work with, so that individual pieces will be produced during the workshop.
