What students may expect:
We will use fresh Eucalyptus leaves for dyeing silk, wool and cotton. Students will learn also how to print with the eucalyptus leaves.
There will be 3 baths: one for 'regular' dyeing with fresh leaves, and one each with copper or iron added to create different results/shades.
We will begin with making a sampler so that you have a reference for later work. When this is finished you can work on your own making larger pieces, such as a scarf or shawl.
A sample package of silk, wool and (mordanted) cotton, qualities of which we are sure will work, will be prepared for you to use during class. Since cotton does not take the dye very well, we will explain how to prepare cotton fabric for future projects. This treatment is a very eco friendly method of mordanting which helps the cotton to accept the dye.
This class is for all levels. Spoken language: English.
