vol / fullEncaustic & Textile Collage

with Gil De Vloo

In this workshop the emphasis lays on collage making with wax. Fabulous effects can be achieved by combining all sorts of fine, transparant fabrics like organza, gauze or voile, tule and cotton scrim with lightweight paper.

Sturdy paper is used as a base for building up collages in order to make wall decorations or heavy carton for making book covers.

All wax layers are fused together with a heatgun or an encaustic iron and manipulated and worked on to create beautiful and interesting structures.

Subsequently all sort of materials can be added to the top layer, such as metal flakes, threads, lace or fibres

A 3D-effect can be created by applying an extra thick layer of wax on specific places. As a finishing touch photocopies can be transferred, metal leaves or textile foils can be added. Also handwritten texts or handmade drawings on tracing paper with carbon pencils or crayons can be transferred onto the wax collage.

Scratching in the top wax layer will create depth. Colour can be added by applying markal paintstiks. The result will be stunning!
