Monotype, Collage & Transferprint vs Digitalprint & Embellishment

4-day class with Malene Kristiansen (Dk)

NOTE: THIS CLASS HAS BEEN CANCELLED

Tutor of this 4-day class is Malene Kristiansen, a.o. lecturer at the Designskole in Copenhagen (Danmark)

Starting with a short presentation of her own design and artistic work; followed by an introduction to digital print on textiles, including software, computers, scanners, colours and fabrics: Malene will then explain the use of sublimation dyes and how they are transferred onto polyester fibers. Students will spend the rest of the day colouring and producing samples and collages on paper, and transfer/print them onto synthetic fabrics or non-wovens using a heat press or an iron.

On Wednesday students will scan and manipulate images on their own laptops and redesign them for digital printing. Malene will assist and guide everyone in order to get the best results possible. By the end of the day all images are saved, collected and submitted to the technician at the Textile Lab of the AUDAX Textile Museum, who will print the results on Thursday Morning.

On Thursday, foil transfer and flock print will be explained, plus embroidery on domestic sewing machines, as well as hand embroidery. Students will start embellishing the fabric samples they produced earlier. After lunch, the digital prints should be ready for analysis and adjustment. The afternoon will be spend on finalizing the digital prints for a second session, and on embellishing the digital print. Before leaving all final print files are submitted again to the technician for a second, and last, print on Friday morning.

Friday morning we will continue with embellishments (foil/flock/embroidery). After lunch the second digital prints will be collected and finished with either embroidery, foil or flock transfer or a combination. To conclude all results will be analysed and discussed after clean up of the classroom.
