Rusty Scarves: dyeing-rusting-printing

2-Day workshop with Gil De Vloo (Be)

In this workshop we will experiment with different ways of rusting. Such as the classic way of using and embedding iron objects, as well as working with rusting powder.

It will be possible to work on various fabrics such as silk chiffon, crêpe georgette, crinkle crêpe satin, pongé(habotai) and crêpe de chine but also on woolen fabrics.

Rusting will be combined with different surface design techniques such as shibori (tie-dye), stamping, stencilling or screen printing with thermofax screens and rubbing.

The fabrics can be dyed before or after the rusting and/or painted by hand as well as embellished with paintsticks.

Because of the variety of techniques offered and time needed to dry the fabric in between we decided to offer you a 2-day class to enable you to finish your projects.

For all levels. Students are encouraged to make various scarves or sample lengths.
