Shimmering Metal

Metal shim is an exciting material which can be manipulated easily.

During this class we will  apply different techniques to integrate these metal plates into textiles. Various media will be used to influence and change the colour. Textures will be explored by embossing, distorting and manipulating the shims with stitches. At the same time we will research how to create interesting backgrounds by using nonwovens like Lutradur® and Pelmet Vilene®.

Metal shims can be used in quilts or embroidery, in book covers (with ornaments) but also in jewelry. This course is a must for art quilters and embroiders with a passion for surface design in general.
