About Sanne:
Fashion Designer Sanne Jansen worked as Trainee @ Akira Minagawa in his studio in Japan. The work she made during her stay there will be part of the exhibition "Mina Perhonen - fashion & design" which will be held at the AUDAX Textilemuseum from 24-10 2009 till 28-02 2010. This workshop has been organised upon request of the museum and will be related to this special exhibit.
Theme:
Telling a story is the main issue in the work/collection of Mina Perhonen. Akira's fabrics are, though beautiful and perfectly made, basically illustrated narrations. Purpose of this workshop is to let participants develop their own story during the day. And to translate this idea into a screenprint, embroidery or drawing on a textile carrier.
Sanne has chosen the theme "nature in and around the house". This is merely a guideline in which there is space to develop your own design, a nice flowerprint or e.g.telling a story about a snail in love. Sanne wants to address the creative capacities of the participants. Being a fashion designer she is not bound to a special textile technique. The idea, the creative design process is the most important for her. Showing how you can develop an idea within a day is her starting point. Using your own imagination is also one of most important starting points of Akira Minagawa.
Contents of the workshop:
Students will start with sketching their personal design ideas. These ideas will be developped into a design. Next step will be to choose which technique is suitable to translate the narrative i.e. drawing, simple printing method, machine stitching or hand embroidery. This will determine the look of the design. An embroidered design has a different look than a printed version consisting of large coloured area's. During the day participants will create and tell their story and decide which method they prefer to communicate their message. Depending on the background this design will become a beautiful silk scarf, a dress or top or maybe a bag.
Within her own work Sanne always tries to use easy and minimal means and resources. During this workshop she will show how to do this and still be original and very creative. Though this course is for all disciplines and levels basic technical know how would be suggested and appreciated.
