Marga van der Bos - 3x industrial felt (Audax conference room 2)
In this course - lead by Marga van der Bos, hat maker and designer - participants will learn how to transform a flat felt surface into a 3D form. A different technique will be emphasized in every workshop. The challenge lays in trying to be an artist. So use your creativity. Sewing experience required.

stanley knife (with spare blades) and sharp scissors
optional: a cutting mat + ruler

We will cut strips of the industrial felt and turn or wrap the felt into a turban. This wearable head-covering can be made to your own size.
2.enveloppe - from 13.00 till 14.30 - code MvdB2
We will investigate how we can make an envelope bag by means of folding, cutting and connecting and we will use the seams as a decorative element.
3. draagobject - from 15.15 till 16.45 - code MvdB3
We will do some research how to model, stitch and fold in order to obtain a spatial form.

1. UTEE: pouring and dipping - from 10.30 till 12.00 - code CM1
Unusual forms can be created when ultra thick embossing enamels are melted in an electrical meltpot and poured on a rubber moulding or relief mat. Exciting effects can be accomplished when all kind of fabrics are dipped in the melted powders. After letting them cool down the results can be embedded into various textile projects, such as embroidery pieces, quilts, book covers, cards and jewelry. Attention will be paid to the integration of these forms in a composition which might be embellished by stitching.
pls bring the following:
-2 uni coloured pieces of fabric (e.g. fine linen/soft cotton 20x20cm)
-hand embroidery yarns & needles
-sharp scissors (small)
-small pieces of lace
2. Embossing powders: stamp, heat and stitch - from 13.00 till 14.30 - code CM2
Interesting patterns occur when paper and fabric are being stamped with paint, covered with embossing powders and activated with a heatgun. We will explore the influence of the paint on the colour and the metallic effects of the powders. We will also be working with nonwovens which shall be distorted by heat. The reliefs will be further embellished with stitches to create an organic form.
pls bring the following:
-1 uni coloured pce of fabric (e.g. fine linen or a soft cotton)
-1 A4 size (handmade)paper
- hand embroidery yarns and needles
-small (sharp) scissors
3. Embossing powders: line and texture on metal shim - from 15.15 till 16.45 - code CM3
Metal ‘shim' is a soft metal which easily can be worked on. During this workshop we will examen line and texture. Line drawings will be made with an embossing tool - texture will be added with embossing powders and stamps. The results can be attached to a background and combined with hand or machine embroidery. They are suitable to use as ornaments in bookcovers, jewelry and in other textile projects.
pls bring the following:
-2 uni coloured pieces of fabric (e.g. fine linen/soft cotton 20x20cm)
-hand embroidery yarns & needles
-sharp scissors (small)
Dijanne Cevaal -Down Under (Deel 2) (atelier Zijdelings)
for samples - see right side
All participants need to bring the following:
Basic sewing materials: sharp fabric scissors, pins and needles
Several sewing and embroidery yarns for your machine in various colours
Sewing Machine, well oiled and cleaned - with a darning foot and extension cord
3.Transfer Printing - from 10.30 till 13.00 - code DC3
Transfer Printing is a method of getting permanent colour onto synthetic materials such as lutradur (a polyester non-woven fibre), polyester and polyester organza. The process allows you to get three prints so that a series can be created. We also explore methods of melting back and free machine stitching to embellish your printed fabric. We will use a polyester non-woven fibre which creates excellent colour and still has transparency to create different effects for your mini-series.
Extra material to bring:
Batting
Fabric for backside
Several colours in gay colours that match together (6pcs of 25x25cm)
4. One Form Five Different Ways - from 14.00 till 16.30 - code DC4
We will print with one form onto fabrics and then using thread and quilting and embroidery to create individual interpretations for each print. The idea is to experiment with shape, colour of the print and thread and background stitching.
Extra material to bring:
Batting
Fabric for backing
Different pieces of fabric in gay colours that match to each other (6pcs 25x25cm)
