Join us as we showcase Beyond Boundaries, exhibiting a variety of textile works by thirty SDA member artists from ten countries in the EU and UK.  The two exhibition locations include Galerie Zone in Leiden (May 2-30) and High Five Art in Baarle Nassau (May 2-August 22). Karina van Vught, EU Representative and owner of Zijdelings, a textile school, will join us. In addition, Cherilyn Martin and Raija Jokinen will join moderator Merill Comeau in a conversation about what it means to be a fiber artist in Europe.

Beyond Boundaries grew out of a May 2018 meeting of European SDA members in Tilburg (The Netherlands). Originally planned for 2020 to coincide with the Textiel Festival in Leiden, the pandemic required postponement until 2021.  A three person jury selected works including weaving, art quilting, mixed media, stitching, and shibori on fabric and leather. Jurors included Anne Mie Boonen, artist and lecturer at the Academy of Genk (Belgium); Helda Klouth, co-owner of High Five Art; and Karina van Vught, EU representative and owner of Zijdelings.

Exhibiting artists include Anneke Herrold, Cherilyn Martin, Flox den Hartog, Hannie van Weel, Helda Klouth, Mirjam Pet-Jacobs, Paulien van Asperen, Willy Doreleijers, Francisca Henneman, Marloes van Rees, all from the Netherlands; Jette Clover, Lia Flemings and Rita Trefois (Belgium); Beverly Ayling-Smith, Fenella Davies, Julieta Gimpel, Stewart Kelly, Yael David Cohen, and Katie Taylor (UK); Mel Bradley, Imelda Connolly (Ireland); Beatriz Schaaf-Giesser, Monika Sebert, Monika Haeussler (Germany); Mascha Mioni (Switzerland); Elinor Siegler, Michele Landel (France); Kissa Tindal (Denmark); Raija Jokinen (Finland); and Eszter Bornemisza (Hungary.)
